Thinking about studying abroad? Big changes have just been rolled out — and if you're planning to apply for a student visa anytime soon, this update is a MUST-READ.
Starting July 1, 2025, student visa fees just went up, and approval is now tougher than ever. But don’t worry — at BigStart, we’ve got you covered with all the essentials you need to stay ahead! Student Visa Application Fees Have Increased. As of this update, the new application costs are:
Student Visa (Subclass 500): AUD $2,000
Guardian Visa (Subclass 590): AUD $2,000
Secondary applicant (Spouse): AUD $1,225
Dependent child: AUD $400
These changes reflect Australia's efforts to improve visa integrity. We always recommend checking the official Home Affairs website for the most accurate and updated fee details.
Decline in Student Visa Approvals — What You Should Know
In recent months, there's been a noticeable drop in international student approvals:
Nearly 50% fewer English language (ELICOS) visas approved
Around 30% decline in total student visa grants
37% decrease in application lodgements compared to previous periods
This trend reflects stricter vetting procedures and more selective assessment processes. That means standing out as a serious and well-prepared applicant is more important than ever.
